Charlotte Osei, former Chairperson of the Electoral Commission of Ghana, delivered the keynote speech at the 13th John Evans Atta Mills Memorial Lecture.    Charlotte Osei expressed that President Atta Mills would be outraged by the environmental devastation caused by illegal mining (galamsey) in Ghana. She emphasized that the current state of the nation starkly contrasts the values Mills championed, including integrity, peace, and national unity.

She also noted that Mills would be disappointed in the toxic nature of Ghana’s current political climate, which has become increasingly divisive. She urged Ghanaians to recommit to Mills’ values of peace, unity, and responsible leadership. She again emphasized the importance of upholding his legacy through unity, sustainable development, and good governance.

Despite her concerns, Osei highlighted some developments that would have made Mills proud, including the resilience of Mills’ family, particularly his son Sam Atta Mills, and his mentees’ progress.
Also, Ghana having its first female Vice President, Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang.

Charlotte Osei praised Mills as a man of humility and vision, calling on all Ghanaians to uphold his legacy through unity, responsible leadership, and sustainable development.
