Sammy Gyamfi, CEO of Ghana Gold Board and National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has sued Afia Schwarzenegger for defamation. Here’s what’s happening

Gyamfi is seeking GH₵10 million in damages, a perpetual injunction restraining Afia Schwarzenegger from making further defamatory remarks, and a public retraction and apology to be published on her social media platforms and in The Daily Graphic.

Afia Schwarzenegger allegedly accused Gyamfi of infidelity, buying cars for female students at the University of Ghana, and purchasing properties in the US for his wife and her sister. Gyamfi denies these claims, stating they’re false and malicious.

The lawsuit was filed on July 23, 2025, at the Accra High Court, and Afia Schwarzenegger has been given an eight-day deadline to respond to the writ. She has indicated she won’t contest the lawsuit, saying Gyamfi should be congratulated on his expected victory.

Sammy Gyamfi asserts that the allegations have damaged his reputation, causing him distress, anxiety, and embarrassment. He claims to have received numerous calls and inquiries from prominent individuals, including government officials and NDC members, seeking clarification on the allegations.

The case highlights the growing concerns about social media defamation and the need for responsible online behaviour.
